a roadmap for couples therapists: introduction to emotionally-focused therapy

 Presented by NYCEFT

Being a couples therapist can be challenging, and a couples therapist without a model can be completely disorienting. Couples often come to therapy in distress. It is important to offer them a framework through which they can make sense of their painful experience in the relationship, to feel heard and understood, and to develop better ways of communicating and connecting with each other. And a couples therapist with a focus using Emotionally Focused Therapy you will be able to help couples in distress to decrease conflict, repair and recover from relationship injuries, build deeper intimacy. The EFT model is rooted in attachment practice and works with emotions in a direct, experiential and non-pathologizing way. Sue Johnson, the founder of EFT, said that “EFT is all about emotion, the music that dictates how we move with or away from our own vulnerabilities and needs.”

In this free introductory workshop, two EFT therapists and supervisors, Liliana Doyon and Irina Wen, will share the basic principles of the EFT model and offer concrete and practical examples of how these principles can be utilized by couples therapists. We intend to keep it down to earth and practical and to inspire you to fall in love with the EFT model.
